Opportunities for Children

Opportunities for Youth

Opportunities for Young Adults

Faith and Family Development Class meets every Sunday morning at 9:30 am. Class leaders are Bill and Linda Haselwood.

The "New" Sunday School began in October of 2009.  Rebekah Swantek is leader.

Brett Royal maintains his own blog that includes his Sunday School Thoughts.

Another blog is hosted and posted by Brian Moore.  Check out Moore on Issues.

Scholarship grants for Wesley members are available for those attending colleges and institutions of higher learning. Applications and guidelines are available in the church office.  E-mail the Scholarship Chair for information and applications.

Softball teams play during the spring and summer months. This is a favorite activity of both players and fans who always fill the stands to cheer on their team, win or loss.

Our Co-ed Volleyball team has been idle for the past two years.  We have been invited to rejoin the Shawnee Church League, which plays in the fall at the Salvation Army gymnasium.  E-mail the coach if you are interested in being on the team.

United Methodist Women

A long established and greatly beneficial branch of the United Methodist Church, UMW provides many opportunities for women to contribute missionally at home and around the world. Circles are the smaller groups of women within each local UMW chapter. Wesley's Peace, Faith, and Loving-Hope Circles meet regularly during the school year and as desired by each group during summer months. Women may choose the group and meeting time best for them.   Spring and fall rummage sales, annual Fall Bazaar and Stew Lunch, cinnamon roll bake sales, funeral dinners for families, and mission projects are some of the UMW¹s projects locally. Meetings are listed on the church calendar and all women are invited to participate.  For more information contact UMW President, Donna Tonubbee.

Spring Women's Retreat

Retreats are planned every spring to include biblical lessons, music, food, and plenty of fun for weekend or Saturday schedules.

United Methodist Men

Wesley's UMM are mighty. Weekly men's prayer breakfast, programs, occasional retreats and work projects keep these men busy. All men are invited to participate. Their meetings and work projects are listed on the church calendar.  Car Care Clinic is scheduled for the fall.  For more information contact UMM Presidents Nick Chlouber and Gary Dowdy.

Singles Minstry

Nick and Debbie Chlouber, along with Burky and Delinda Curtis, use the third Sunday of the month for a Singles potluck and fellowship.  They gather at 5:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. in Summer) to have fun and support each other in life's challenges for the single person because of divorce, death, or choice.

This is the only United Methodist ministry of its kind in the Shawnee area, and it's been a great success.

Wesley on Wednesdays

Wesley on Wednesday, "WOW," began at Wesley United Methodist, September 9th from 4:00-6:15 p.m. Transportation can be arranged from area grade schools.   All interested families may call the church office, 275-1556.   WOW will take 1st - 5th graders through "Hands-on Bible MAX" activities to get kids into the Bible, and the Bible into kids.   Crafts, praise, small group lessons and prayers, videos, CDs and supper will all be part of the fun.  Call Kellie Steele to enroll your child: 878-0514.

Sisters at Heart

An outgrowth of our Family Life area, SIH has become a community-wide social and spiritual time for Shawnee's women.  They meet monthly, and combine a snack meal with a noted speaker or special event that has been drawing great crowds and noteworthy praise.

EIM was last year's Wesley Hope team.

Co-ed Volleyball Team

The team plays in the spring and fall.  Terry Dyke is the organizer.  The Shawnee Church Co-ed League plays at Immanuel Baptist Family Life Center at Center and E. Main.  The rules call for 3 girls and 3 boys on a side.  No spiking.

Mission Trips and Outreach

Wesley is a very missionally hearted congregation with projects and work teams locally, in other areas of Oklahoma, in the US and other areas of the world. Our members usually work on Volunteers In Mission teams (a UMC organization) with trips to Mexico being favorite projects. Work teams have also helped at Nagawee UMC, a rural native American congregation. Several mission teams from other areas of the US have stayed at Wesley while also lending a hand to the Nagawee church.  Gary Dowdy will help you get plugged into a mission team.

Evangelism

Adults deliver loaves of bread with a written activities schedule on the loaf wrapper to visitors and guests. Wesley is known as a very friendly congregation. Each church member and participant has his/her own nametag. Knowledgeable members man the doors on Sundays as greeters and the Welcome Table in the main hall. Worship services are designed with a visitor friendly feel. Wesley embraces the UMC's national evangelism media tool, Igniting Ministry, and its motto of "Open hearts, open minds, open doors. The People of the United Methodist Church."

Prayer Advocacy

Prayer is an important part of the live of Wesley Church. The prayer team or group participates in the Sunday evening service, meets for prayer at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesday in the evening, and again during the lunch hour Fridays. Those needing prayer for any reason may contact the prayer team directly or complete a card in the church pews. Baskets with prayer needs are located in the main hallway and in the worship service on Sunday mornings. Special prayer vigils and services are held when needed. A prayer board for military personnel is currently affixed on the wall in the main hallway.  Contact Sue Thomas with a prayer request or to see how you can become a part of this active prayer time.

Spiritual Formation

Those seeking a closer relationship with God may tap into this area of ministry. Materials and classes are provided yearly.  Contact Melissa Baker.

Additional Opportunities for Senior Adults

Senior Adults

A fellowship group for all senior adults, this active group meets regularly at the church and away as well. The church van is their usual mode of transportation.
