. Weekly Opportunities For Worship Every Sunday morning, Sunday School classes begin at 9:30 a.m.:
Children lead Sunday Service On Wednesday evenings at 6:30, a well-attended casual worship service is held in Draper Chapel. This is a service of lively gospel singing, prayer, Holy Communion and a short sermon.
Rev. Jeff Burress and guest speaker Rev. Dr. Nathan Goto Music is a big part of worship at Wesley! Lively congregational singing is encouraged. Music Ministry participants present vocal, handbell, piano, organ and other instrumental anthems and selections during all regular and special worship services. The traditional and contemporary praise styles are blended together in an attempt to appeal to all worshippers. The projecting of song words on large screens in the sanctuary enhances congregational singing.Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of each month as a part of the Sunday Morning Worship Service and also each Wednesday as a part of the Wednesday Evening Service. Communion elements are also taken to church members who are shut-ins and residents of local retirement and assisted-living centers and are served by volunteers with special instruction from the pastor. Seasonal Opportunities For Worship Advent A Hanging of Green Service starts off the Advent with an evening of music and decorating the church sanctuary with a crimson tree, garlands, wreaths and lights. This service is held the first Sunday after Thanksgiving. During each Sunday service, the Advent candles are lighted. Christmas Eve Candle Light Services are held in the sanctuary. Many extended families, guests and members attend these services of music, prayer, message and Holy Communion. Times TBA. Lent The season of Lent begins with an Ash Wednesday Service held in the sanctuary. This service includes the pastor placing the mark of the cross on worshippers' foreheads with ashes. Times TBA. Holy Week includes the Palm/Passion Sunday Service with the ceremonial waving of palms by a procession of children and youth to prepare the way for the Lord's entry into Jerusalem. Easter Sunday Worshippers may choose from two Easter Sunday services, 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Joyous celebration of Christ's resurrection is the highlight of the year at Wesley. All are welcome! Parking is available at the church and at a lot two blocks away with church van shuttle service provided. Other Services Weddings
When
two persons enter into holy matrimony, they not only pledge faith to each
other, but they also enter into covenant with God. It is the desire of
this congregation and its minister that every wedding ceremony shall be
a service of worship and that the occasion shall be memorable and truly
beautiful. While there may be fees involved, the church building is never
"rented out", and participants are expected to observe the church's traditions. When a church member or a friend of Wesley Church passes from this life, it is the desire of this congregation to provide an expression of care and comfort for the family and friends of the deceased. The pastor should be contacted at the church or at the church parsonage to visit with the family and make arrangements and plans for the funeral and/or graveside service. The church organist, soloists and sound technicians are available upon request. The United Methodist Women will provide a family dinner for church members. For information concerning funerals, fees and the availability of the church facilities, contact the pastor Dr. Marvin Hudson or our administrative assistant, at the church, 405-275-1556. |
